#Ashes Wood-Woakes Keep Calm to take England 1-up in Headingley

Date:

In yet another nail-biting ashes test, Mark Wood and Chris Woakes kept their composure and took England 1 up in the 3rd Ashes test held in Headingley.

Harry Brooks Heroics

Prior to their heroics, it was Harry Brooks’s onslaught (75 of 93) and his effective partnership with Woakes (32* off 47) that created the base for a famous win for England.

Australia must pat their backs as they were all over England until the moment Mark Wood arrived who took it over from his 1st innings cameo (24 off 8 in the first innings), he plundered yet another inning (16* off 8 1X4, 1X6), and stood strength to strength with Woakes, who was cool as a cucumber even when England lose Brooks to Starc.

Left-arm pacer, Mitchell Starc registered his 14th fifer to give the Aussies the best chance for a 3-0 lead and win the Ashes, but Brooks, Woakes, and Wood had other ideas.

England though will have to go to the drawing board and discuss their misfiring top and middle order, they will also need to tune a bit to their bazzball approach and bring the old, classic test approach.

The best rivalry just gets better, Ashes

Australia, need to relax and take this with their chins up as they performed exceptionally well despite giving the British a paltry target of 250+, they were in the game for the maximum duration. However, the area of concern will be Warner and the misfiring Marnus on whom the Oz rely heavily.

From Headingley, we move to Manchester on July 19 for the 4th Ashes Test. Australia are leading 2-1 in the Ashes series.
