Dinesh Karthik’s Lovely Banter with Ricky Ponting Wins the Internet

Date:

Indian wicket-keeper batsman Dinesh Karthik has many faces to his already cheeky talent. He can don the captain’s hat, he can become a finisher and he can also ace the commentator’s game.

Dinesh Karthik was seen commentating during the recently concluded Ashes 2023 in England. He shared the seat with stalwarts – Ricky Ponting, Mark Taylor, Matthew Vaughn, and others, however, this specific moment is related to his cheeky banter with Ricky Ponting and Mark Taylor during Australia’s 4th innings chase when David Warner and Usman Khwaja were batting.

During the fifth Ashes test 2023, David Warner and Usman Khwaja were seen taking Australia to the finishing line but rain interruptions and a slew of wickets cut short their chase and the Kangaroos had to lose the 5th test by a margin of 49 runs. England went on to draw the series 2-2.

In this video, Dinesh Karthik is seen recalling a similar incident from an Ashes series where Ricky Ponting was batting alongside Mike Hussey and they were cruising at one point of time when England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff cut short Pontin’s innings with a direct throw. The Aussies went on to lose the match from there on.

In response to Karthik, Ponting said Karthik seems like taking an English contract next season. Twitter too had a field day with people praising both the players for their friendly banter and taking the joke sportingly.

For the unversed, the well-fought Ashes 2023 ended in a 2-2 draw. Stuart Broad retired from international cricket by picking the last two wickets at the Kennington Oval and taking his overall wicket tally to 604. Moeen Ali who came out of retirement after being requested by Ben Stokes also hung his boots one final time.
