Joaquin Phoenix Stars in Yet Another Historical Character, This time it Napolean; Trailer Out

The trailer for the Ridley Scott-directed Napolean is out. The biographical movie based on the rise of French Emperor Napolean Bonaparte will be released on November 22, 2023. Napoleon stars Joaquin Phoenix in the titular character.

This is Phoenix’s third historical character after playing Commodus in Gladiator and Jesus in Mary Magdalene. The Academy Award-winning actor looks robust and looks absorbed into the skin of the character of the French monarch.

About Napolean

The upcoming epic historical drama film is directed and produced by ace filmmaker Ridley Scott (Blade Runner, Gladiator, Exodus: Gods and Kings, House of Guccu) and written by David Scarpa. The movie depicts the French leader’s rise to power as well as his relationship with Empress Joséphine.

The film Vanessa Kirby as Joséphine, alongside Tahar Rahim in a supporting role. Phoenix is also one of the producers of the film.

The movie has been shot around various historical locations in and around Europe with some prominent locations being Stowe Avenue and House, Buckinghamshire, Malta, and Lincoln Cathedral which replicates the historical Notre-dame de Paris. The movie will showcase some of the historical events such as the siege of Toulon where Napolean had his first victory and the battle of Waterloo where Napoleon lost along with his marriages, war tactics, etc.

The trailer shows stunning war sequences shot on a large scale and captures Napolean Bonaparte’s journey to power, showcasing his visionary military and political tactics against some of the most dynamic practical battle sequences ever filmed.
