The town of Clones is in mourning as the remains of Kiea McCann (17), who tragically lost her life in a car crash on her way to a Debs ball in Monaghan, returned home. Kiea and her best friend Dlava Mohamed (16) lost their lives in the single-vehicle accident that occurred on Monday evening. The Monaghan crash also left three others injured when the car veered off the road and collided with a tree.
Late on Tuesday night, a hearse carrying Kiea’s remains arrived at her family home in Clones, where locals paid their respects by forming a heartwarming guard of honor. The entire community united, stretching over 1km on both sides of the road, to honor Kiea’s final journey through the heart of Clones, from The Diamond to Fitzpatrick Square.
Monaghan Crash – People pay Tributes
Hundreds of people lined the streets, standing for over an hour, showing their support and grief for the young lives lost in this devastating accident. Kiea McCann, originally from Kilmainhamwood in Co Meath but later residing in Clones with her family, and Dlava Mohamed, whose family hails from Syria and also resides in the town, were beloved students at Largy College.
The accident took place on the N54 at Legnakelly near Clones at approximately 6:45 pm, leaving the community in shock and sorrow. Alongside the two friends who lost their lives, three other passengers were seriously injured in the crash.
An 18-year-old girl remains in critical but stable condition at Cavan General Hospital, while a boy (18) received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the car, a 60-year-old man, remains in critical condition and is being treated at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast.
